Leaders become unable to be any other units
When a leader is given the madness trait, sometimes they stay a leader after going mad and if cured they stay marked a leader but cannot become the leader of any villages or become another unit so they become unable to really do anything including joining the army or becoming king

MichaelTo test this, give a leader madness and revert him back to normal. I’m not sure if it always does this or if what kingdom/village they’re in matters.

ArchDestroyer10This has happened to me as well, in both cases the unit was an immortal favorite before hand and I gave them madness, after I cured them of it they had the Leaders 'uniform' but they wouldn't become leader, even if they had extremely high diplomacy compared to the guy who got promoted instead. I have tried killing off most of the villages inhabitants and they still refuse to become leader, they just stay a civilian unit (in my cases miner and farmer although I have no idea if that's the only jobs they can have). It also doesn't matter if you make them mad again and cure them, it just has the same effect as last time.
